Magic Headwear to Offer Apparel

To complement its already-strong headwear business, Magic Group, Compton, Calif., is in the process of launching its first apparel line, Magic Activewear. David Rucker, director of research, development and merchandising, says the move into the apparel arena, which has been in the works for the last two or three years, "was just a natural progression considering [the company's] presence in the headwear market."

The Magic Activewear line will offer T-shirts, hoodies and piqué polo shirts in men, ladies' and kids' styles.

Though the company will initiate a splash with Magic Activewear, it's not the only apparel line the company plans to launch. Also scheduled are the debuts of a workwear line, Blue and White, that will feature long- and short-sleeve shirts; a line of urban-styled short-sleeve T-shirts called Big D; a "metro, young adult" line of men's and ladies' form-fitting T-shirts, fleece and 1x1 rib tank tops called 213; and other lines that include eco-friendly men's and women's T-shirts and garment-dyed apparel, according to Rucker. Looking further down the road, he says the company also is planning to launch a performance apparel line, Magic Tech, by 2010.

Rucker also says both the company's locations — in California and Memphis, Tenn. — will be fully stocked with product by next year.
