Charles River Teams with Gear4GoodNov 7, 2008Charles River Apparel, Medford, Mass., recently partnered with Gear4Good, a program that is part of The Mountain Fund, a non-profit organization that assists impoverished mountain communities with healthcare, education and human rights around the world. Gear4Good reuses donated outdoor gear and apparel such as packs, sleeping bags, boots and outerwear for trekking porters, search-and-rescue teams and at-risk youth. Charles River recently donated hundred of jackets to the program, which will deliver them to poverty-stricken people in Nepal. "In Nepal, poorly paid porters lack clothing to keep them warm and dry while carrying loads for tourists up the steep slopes of Mt. Everest," says Scott MacLennan, founder and executive director of The Mountain Fund. "Many times over the years they suffered frostbite or even died for lack of a good warm jacket. Charles River Apparel's donation will help ensure that hundreds of working porters do not suffer." RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
