Corel Announces Winners of International Design Contest

August 10, 2009

Corel Corp., Ottawa, recently announced the winners of the CorelDRAW International Design Contest, which drew submissions from users in more than 60 countries. Junior Souza of Brazil won first place in the Fashion/Textile category. Impressions Senior Editor Terry Murphy was among the international panel of judges for the competition.

Introduced as part of the company's 20th Anniversary Celebration for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, the contest was designed to celebrate the diversity, creativity and talent of the global CorelDRAW user community.

"All of the entries we received reflect the dedication, spirit and amazing talent of our global community of CorelDRAW users," said John Falsetto, Product Manager for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. "We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the submissions and had a tough time narrowing it down to our selected winners. Our users continually inspire us and we are delighted to have had this chance to see even more examples of how CorelDRAW Graphics Suite makes a difference in the lives - and livelihoods - of our most loyal users."

First-place winners in the contest's six categories:

• Advertising/Marketing — Juarez Jr. da Silva, Brazil

• Promotional/Personalization/Awards — Aleksey Oglushevich, Russia

• Vehicle Wraps — Arief Rachman, Indonesia

• Textile/Fashion Design — Junior Souza, Brazil

• General Illustration and Fine Art — Aleksey Oglushevich, Russia

• Academic (student submissions) — Fong-Chow Chiang, Taiwan

Corel has an installed base of 100 million users in 75 countries and, according to the company, the disparate locations of the six winners reflect the growing popularity of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite in emerging markets such as Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific.

Each category winner will receive a prize package that includes tools specific to their industry.

Aleksey Oglushevich, who won in two categories, also was named grand prize winner, specifically for his General Illustration and Fine Art submission. He will receive a Roland VersaCAMM VP-540 printer/cutter that retails for approximately $22,000.

"I am truly honored," Oglushevich said. “CorelDRAW is a key part of my day-to-day work. I love that it is powerful enough to create professional pieces, but also precise and versatile enough to create beautiful artwork. I am thankful to Corel for giving me the opportunity to showcase my work and can't wait to use the Roland printer/cutter."

Contest judges came from around the world, and consisted of Corel personnel, key industry influencers and media, partners, and members of the CorelDRAW community at large. Click here to see a full list of winners and their artwork.
