American Embroidery Supply Debuts New Stabilizer

July 19, 2011

American Embroidery Supply, Columbus, Ga., recently introduced Eco-Stick — a 2-ounce tearaway/washaway adhesive stabilizer that is designed for hoopless or clamp embroidery.

Eco-Stick is ideal for open embroidery on light cottons and linens. It supports medium-density stitch counts up to about 12,000 stitches. For higher or more dense stitch counts, another layer of tearaway can be hooped or “floated” under the hoop. When the embroidery is finished, the excess tears away from the stitches and the rest dissolves in water with the first wash. All of the fibers that dissolve are completely biodegradable and will not hurt the environment. The non-woven stabilizer is constructed of part water-soluble and part non-water-soluble materials. So, although most of the stabilizer dissolves after an initial full wash, it leaves the soluble fibers under the stitching to give the embroidery the support it needs to keep the design looking sharp and crisp throughout the life of the garment, according to the company.

Eco-Stick is made using a “wet-laid” non-woven process that ensures it is non-directional and dense for maximum support. This type of stabilizer aids in approaching a “tambourine-skin” tension level that is necessary for proper registration or definition, especially with lettering and fine details. Eco-Stick uses needle-friendly, pressure-sensitive adhesive, which helps to avoid excessive “gummy” residue leading to messy hoops, needles and excessive thread breaks.

Eco-Stick comes in precut 8" x 8" sheets. On a roll, it’s available in 8-inch and 11 1/2-inch widths by 25- and 50-yard rolls. Additionally, custom cutting and samples are available, according to the company.
