John Moshay Dies After Battle with Cancer

January 04, 2010

John Moshay, chairman of the board, A4, died recently after a long battle with cancer.
Industry veteran John Moshay, chairman of the board at A4, Los Angeles, died Jan. 1 after a long battle with cancer.

Moshay founded Robin Hill, a private-label supplier, in 1972 with Dick Blumenthal and Leonard Feldman. The company was spun off from L&L Manufacturing, where Moshay had started his career under the tutelage of Feldman. A few years later, Moshay bought out his partners, took sole ownership and grew the company as a leading manufacturer of children's and women's clothing.

In the early 1980s, Moshay became the licensee for the Hobie brand and developed a strong business in California active sportswear for juniors. IN 1994, the company became the sole licensee for Converse athletic apparel. In 1995, Moshay became partners with Mark Mertens under the newly-named company A4.

Moshay retired in 2008, but retained his position as chairman of the board. Mertens is vice chairman.

Moshay is survived by his wife, Sandy Chandler Moshay; his sons, John and Michael Moshay; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will take place Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Lebanon, Beverly Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Moshay's name to Hillsides Home for Children in Pasadena. For more information, visit hillsides.org. — J.L.
