Levi's 'Commuter' Series Features SANITIZED Antimicrobial ProductsOctober 14, 2011SANITIZED AG, Burgdorf, Switzerland, will provide performance technology to the Levi's brand "Commuter" series of apparel, which are designed to accommodate the needs of the urban cyclist, including long-lasting comfort and protection against odor, according to the company. Built around the Levi's 511 Skinny Jean and Trucker Jacket, the Commuter series features fabric and construction upgrades that increase mobility and durability, as well as protect cyclists from potential commuting hazards. "This product was born from innovation and classic American style — it's about designing product for people who ride bikes, by people who ride bikes," says Erik Joule, senior vice president of Levi's Men's Merchandising and Design. "We knew that our jeans were already being worn by urban cyclists across the country. We listened to what they wanted and created a product with performance traits for biking that also functions as daily street wear." SANITIZED AG provided a hygiene textile finish for Levi's denim and non-denim fabrics in the collection. The goal is to provide protection against odors for long-lasting freshness and comfort, according to Darrell Burnette, business development manager for North America, SANITIZED AG. He says the denim fabrics benefit from the company's T20-19 hygienic finish because it was designed to be compatible with other treatments that provide other features in the Commuter series. The non-denim fabrics contain Sanitized Silver hygienic protection, which is based on silver salt, a product with natural antimicrobial properties. Sanitized products prevent the growth and hinder the reproduction of bacterial cell membranes, which are responsible for the development of unpleasant odors.
