T-Shirt Forums Hosts Digital Printing Contest

T-Shirt Forums, Sacramento, is hosting its first-ever “DTG Battle Royale” that pits digital garment decorators from around the world against each other.

All contestants will be printing two pieces of artwork that can be downloaded from the contest Web page. One image will be printed on the front and one on the back of an American Apparel black T-shirt (style 2001). The shirt can be ordered from TSCApparel.com, AlphaShirt.com, Sun-Apparel.com, or direct from AmericanApparel.net.

Judging will be based on five criteria: 1) the first impression, which means whether the print is “display ready” without any stains or heat press markings; 2) the sharpness of the print detail; 3) the softness of the print hand; 4) washability (All entries will be washed in a household washing machine.); and 5) print accuracy, which includes registration, trapping, banding and even ink distribution.

As the primary judge, Rodney Blackwell, owner, T-Shirt Forums, will visually inspect each entry. In addition, he will take pictures of each entry and post them to the forum, where members anonymously can vote for their favorite entry. The grand prize winner will be determined by the judges, as well as the online votes.

Any direct-to-garment digital decorating shop is eligible to enter. No entries will be accepted from machine manufacturers or distributors. Entries will be accepted until Feb. 28.

The grand-prize winner will receive a one-year subscription to DecoNetwork, an online T-shirt designer program and storefront. Donated by Wilcom, this subscription is worth $1,188. In addition, the grand-prize winner also will receive $100 cash prize, which is payable via check, PayPal or an Amazon Gift Card. There also will be a super cool mystery prize that that will be announced later, according to the company.

T-Shirt Forums will offer a one-year preferred printer listing at PrinterListings.com, an online business directory of custom T-shirt printing businesses, which is valued at $199.
