Unifi, BlueAvocado Team Up on Green Shopping SystemDecember 09, 2009Unifi Inc., Greensboro, N.C., makers of REPREVE recycled fibers, and BlueAvocado, Austin, Texas, an eco-conscious lifestyle products company, recently joined forces to reduce their environmental footprints by diverting materials from ending up in landfills. BlueAvocado recently introduced its reusable gro-pak shopping system, which is designed to replace 15 environmentally harmful plastic bags per shopping trip. The system features five separate component bags made using REPREVE recycled fibers. The system is collapsible, insulated and ventilated to fit the needs of various items. "Our goal was to provide eco-conscious, time-starved shoppers with a reusable and recycled grocery bag system that's focused on style, convenience and value," says Melissa Nathan, chief innovation officer, BlueAvocado. "The gro-pak system can eliminate 1,000 plastic bags per shopper per year, so the impact of one consumer can affect the lives of many." REPREVE is a family of 100% recycled fibers that are made from waste and post-consumer plastic (PET) bottles. The partnership between the two companies promotes the three pillars of sustainability: reduce, reuse, recycle. For more information, visit blueavocado.com. — J.L. RECENT HEADLINES
